What about my pain?
Pain is a sign that there is something wrong within your body but it is often an unreliable indicator of what or where the problem is or its severity. For example, pain that you feel in your lower back and legs could be coming from your upper back or even your neck.

Chiropractors are trained to take a holistic approach and to find the root cause of your problem.

What are the causes of poor posture?
Causes of poor posture include: long term use of devices, like computers, that cause you to sit in a hunched position for long periods of time; injuries, such as sporting injuries, car accidents and falls; and hereditary disorders, such as scoliosis and osteoporosis.

In today’s world, children are developing problems with their posture at a much more rapid rate than previous generations, due largely to the prolonged periods they spent sitting in front of computers and other electronic devices.

What are the signs of poor posture?
The most common sign of poor posture is forward displacement of the head, known as Forward Head Posture (FHP). When your head is pushed forward, it pulls against your neck, back, shoulders and chest and can also push your hips out of alignment to compensate.
Are spinal adjustments painful?
Some patients will experience a slight muscle ache the day after having their spine adjusted; this is normal and will usually pass within 24 hours.
How long will it take before I see results?

Many patients start seeing results after their first treatment. Patients with more severe conditions may need a few weeks of treatment before they can really see or feel a difference.

If I feel better after a few weeks of treatment, does that mean I’m cured?
If you’ve been living with pain for a long time, then you may think your problem is fixed as soon as the pain goes away.

However, what we’re aiming for is not just a treatment of the symptoms, but a treatment of the underlying causes and this can take time.

The duration of your treatment plan depends on your individual symptoms, so make an appointment to talk through your needs with our chiropractor.

Will I need to go for many visits?
Most people need a few visits and some people need many visits. The number of visits that will be required to correct your condition depends on the severity of the condition, the length of time you had it, whether you exercise, if you are overweight, your stress level, whether you let it heal during the process or you continue to aggravate it, has it started to degenerate etc. Roughly speaking, from a symptom standpoint, people with an easy problem improve in a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Difficult problems can take months.
Is chiropractic care for me?

For thousands of patients everyday chiropractic changes their life and so on your first visit your Chiropractor will start by taking a comprehensive history including everything from lifestyle habits, past medical history and lifestyle habits to fully understand the cause of your complaint. Your Doctor will then follow this with a very thorough Physical examination to fully determine the cause of your problem.

After this the Doctor may or may not need to take X-rays, to help further understand your complaint. Although the majority of patients that we see have back and neck pain and this is what we are most recognised as being experts in, chiropractic has helped millions of people around the world with a whole variety of problems. Typical everyday problems that we see on a daily basis include…

If your symptoms do not appear on the list it doesn’t mean chiropractic can’t help, there are simply too many conditions to list. As doctors highly trained in the nervous system, the most powerful system in the body, chiropractic can help unlimited signs and symptoms. If you are not sure if chiropractic can help your complaint please call or email the clinic and one of the chiropractors will be more than happy to discuss this with you.

How long will it take to get better?

This will depend on a number of factors including how long you have had your problem for, your age, your physical condition and any previous injuries and/or accidents. The best advice for any patient is that the sooner you address your complaint the quicker it will be to respond to care.

How much will it cost me?
Again, this all depends on how many sessions that you will need. However, many studies across the world have shown that chiropractic care for many conditions is the most cost effective way for the treatment for musculoskeletal pain. For more information on these studies please ask one of our chiropractors.
What is an adjustment?
The adjustment is what makes chiropractic different from all other health care professions around the world. An adjustment is extremely different from a manipulation which is practiced by physical therapists and osteopaths.

The adjustment is a very gentle very specific placement by hand of the vertebrae into its correct position. Adjusting the vertebrae to restore normal function removes the irritation and helps the nervous system return to normal.

As a result of the adjustment the nervous system is free to work to its maximum and allows the vital messages that the brain sends out to the body to flow freely allowing the body to be healthy. Chiropractors undergo hours of extensive training during chiropractic college to perform this art and are the only profession in the world able to deliver a specific spinal adjustment.

What is a subluxation?
The human spine is composed of 24 individual vertebrae. At each vertebra a nerve exits from the spinal cord on either side of the spine and travels to a specific area in the body. If one of these vertebras becomes misaligned it pinches or traps one of these nerves. (Find out why they become misaligned sees ‘what is chiropractic’.) These nerves are carrying vital information initiated in the brain to the rest of the body.

Often you will be able to feel when this happens, as you will be able to feel pain, weakness, pins needles, numbness, aching, shooting electrical pain or cramping. However this is usually the sign that a subluxation has been present for some time. Often subluxations will be silent and people don’t realize that they are present until something occurs in their life that pushes them over the top. When the vertebrae in the spine are properly realigned with chiropractic adjustments then the nerves exit the spinal cord without a problem and the electrical impulses can flow freely to the rest of the body without pain.

Will I need x-rays?
Each Individual case is different. A decision will be made on your initial consultation after the case history and examination is taken. It is important to remember that we will only ever take an x-ray if it absolutely necessary for your individual case. For some patients x-rays are a necessity to rule out certain conditions that chiropractic cannot help. Other times, if initial examination findings are unclear, an x-ray is taken to help lead to a diagnosis. The main reasons chiropractors take x-rays are for your safety, to access the condition of the spine, to check for congenital anomalies and to access for any degeneration within the spine.
How many visits will I need?
Again this depends on a number of factors. These factors include how long you’ve had your problem, how severe it is, your lifestyle, weather you listen to the advice your doctor gives you and many more. Your Doctor will explain to you how many visits will be required in your report of findings, depending on examination and x-ray findings and come up with the appropriate management plan. Generally speaking the sooner you have a problem assessed and treated the quicker you will recover.
What's the difference between chiropractic and osteopathy?
Chiropractic and osteopathy differ in their training and principles to health. Osteopaths tend to generally manipulate large areas of the spine whereas chiropractors are trained extensively in the nervous system and nerve function. Chiropractors focus on specificity and will only adjust the vertebra that needs to be corrected. They are also highly trained to take and interpret x-rays which osteopaths are not. Chiropractors have a generally longer degree being 5 years and involves an emphasis on neurology, orthopaedics and biomechanics.
Is chiropractic safe for babies?

Absolutely 100% yes! Here at The Hyndland Chiropractic Clinic we treat babies from a few weeks old to over 90 years of age. Many babies in the United States are now adjusted within the first few hours of birth. The birth process can be such a traumatic event, having your babies’ spine and nervous system assessed as soon as you can is one of the most important things you can do for a new born. Research shows that babies react to treatment better than any age group. See Kids chiropractic for more.

Is chiropractic safe for children?
Again, yes absolutely! The human body is constantly changing during the first 20 years of life. Often these pains are described by some people as growing pains. Chiropractic is very safe and effective for children and adolescents.
